Overview As enterprises rapidly broaden their use of encryption to protect sensitive information, the management of encryption keys has taken on new importance. There has been explosive growth in the number of entities performing encryption, the number of encryption keys being generated, and the number of individual key management systems being deployed as a result. Predictably, these key management "Stovepipes" are costly and complex to manage, cannot reliably assure the availability of keys - and the business processes those keys enable - and are not sufficiently flexible to support standard business practices, such as sharing data across multiple applications, organizational divisions, and partners.
