Alberta Department of Energy Improves Forecasting

Overview Energy commodity price volatility and production variability in the Province of Alberta can cause wide swings in provincial royalty revenue streams. A $5 barrel of oil equivalent variation in price equates to a royalty revenue fluctuation of US$695 million. The challenge was to forecast fluctuations in energy prices to prevent loss of revenue for the province. Alberta with the help of SAS allowed users throughout the enterprise to perform the crucial analytics required, no matter their skill level.
