RFID-Integrated Technologies for Infection Control: Background and Technology Comparison on Key Adoption Considerations

Overview This whitepaper provides background on the issue of HAIs and the extent to which they can be addressed with RFID technologies. It evaluates the various types of RFID technologies available for infection control on the basis of reliability, flexibility, scalability and interoperability. The first part of this whitepaper will provide background information from the CDC on the prevalence of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), and briefly summarize the position paper by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) on the importance of surveillance technologies to prevent HAIs. The second part of the paper will outline several different types of RFID solutions for automatic infection control surveillance and help shed some light on things decision makers should consider when selecting a system for their facility.
