802.1X Implementation: Choosing the Best Supplicant for Your Network Access Solution

Overview 802.1X allows for a network end station such as a desktop, laptop, printer, or IP phone, to provide a network device (switch or access point) the credentials to identify itself and request access to the network. It is an industry standard that is supported by most enterprise-networking equipment. Today's networks are no longer stationary with employees working from desktop computers or students working in isolated computer labs. Networks are rapidly becoming more mobile with students and employees carrying laptops and PDAs. Network devices include IP phones, printers, scanners, and video surveillance. These devices require the appropriate level of network service and the capability to access network applications from multiple locations.
