The company has more than 20,000 employees and an IT environment with over 6,000 servers, providing both internal and external services. Swisscom wanted to ensure that it got the most out of its IT investment and that it could deliver new, more innovative workplace solutions. In general, the outsourcing market has demanded for ongoing cost reductions while delivering constant innovation and more flexibility. Swisscom engaged in a Microsoft Services Platform Rationalization effort to optimize its core infrastructure, business productivity infrastructure, and application platform. Two on-site Microsoft consultants, including a Business Strategy Consultant (BSC) and an IT Architecture and Planning Advisor, guide these efforts including Microsoft Office SharePoint Server.
