Overview The purpose of this paper is to present solutions that will allow for mixed encryption environment implementations using Sun StorageTek Encryption Solution with the T10000 FICON tape drive. Mixed encryption environments are defined as a library configuration that contains both T10000 encrypted and non-encrypted drives or contains T10000 encrypted drives using different encryption keys. This Best Practices paper is not intended to be a step-by-step guide, but rather serves to highlight the issues and obstacles involved in a typical mixed drive configuration and present recommended best practices for overcoming them. The information presented in this paper is supported by testing initiatives that were conducted in Sun's Mainframe Customer Emulation Test Lab.
