Overview Email has rapidly evolved to become an essential tool for most businesses and organizations - and now represents a mission-critical application in every sense of the term. However, unlike most core applications that are housed in the corporate data center and centrally managed, email systems and much of their supporting infrastructures have historically been treated with surprisingly less rigor. Characterized by a highly distributed topology and often managed by non-IT staff in branch or departmental locations, email has grown up to be a bit of a problem child. And, mail systems are further at risk due to the frequency at which they are under attack by spammers and viruses.
