Greener IT, Greener Education
Overview Because of all the trends, green IT is moving up the agenda of IT professionals in higher and further education. In a recent poll3 of members by Universities and Colleges Information Systems Association (UCISA), it was the third most important concern. However, when members were asked where they were spending their time and money, it didn't make the top ten. One possible explanation is that institutions are looking for vendors to help them reduce the environmental impact of their IT as they replace and upgrade their hardware. Energy efficiency and carbon footprint have a high profile, but the education sector is also focusing on its broader environmental impact. There is a widespread commitment to increased recycling.
