Oracle 10g Release 2 Performance and Tuning on an IBM System p Linux on POWER Platform
Overview This paper discusses performance considerations when setting up an Oracle Database 10g Release 2 on Linux on POWER (LoP) platforms. Recent Linux kernel enhancements such as huge page support, IBM POWER5+ 64 KB pages, libhugetlbfs, Fibre Channel and network adapter enhancements and other kernel processor tunings can be deployed to bring enterprise class performance to Linux. The contributors discuss how to easily setup, deploy and configure these performance features and discuss the performance gains using an OLTP workload on a 128 GB 8-core (16-threads) IBM System p5 570 server. Relative performance results are given for each improvement as well as discussions on 4-core and 8-core scaling results.
