3Com Case Study: St Michaels Collegiate College (Australia)
Overview St Michaels Collegiate College is the only Tasmanian school that services students with a PC-based curriculum. The existing school's structure could only connect two notebooks per classroom. If a lesson required Internet usage, the only options were to book the Computer Lab or physically cable a maximum of seven laptops into a classroom. These options were restrictive, inconvenient and created safety issues with amount of wiring required. St Michaels deployed 3Com Wireless LAN solution which was based on price and its unique offering. Made up of access points, cards, software and programming tools, 3Com's wireless LAN solution works as an extension of the wired network. St Michaels Collegiate College bought six access points and placed them strategically around the school's campus using 3Com's site survey utility for the desired coverage and performance.
