Leading UK Science & Technology Institution Drives Supercomputing Research With 3Com SuperStack 3 Switch 3870 Solutions
Overview Located in the South Kensington district of London, the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine (www.ic.ac.uk/) is one of the world's foremost scientific, engineering, and medical research and teaching institutions. The institution required Gigabit solutions that deliver exceptional performance, high port-density to support clusters of workstations, and very competitive pricing. Moreover, its systems had to provide the versatility to also integrate into the school's general network for student use during the day. Although Imperial College already used 3Com solutions widely throughout the campus LAN, it demanded the best solutions for its particularly challenging supercomputing needs. As a result, it carefully reviewed available Gigabit Ethernet switches from many leading vendors. It found that 3Com systems featured the best form factor and price/performance.
