Strengthening a Balanced Approach to Literacy With mCLASS Solutions
Overview Bellevue's elementary schools were using a paper-based formative assessment to evaluate students' needs, but it was given just one or two times a year, depending on the grade level. District staff report that the assessment data had limitations and did not offer the level of sophistication teachers and principals needed to gain an understanding of student achievement and needs. Bortleson and her team identified mCLASS:Reading 3D as a research-based, nationally normed assessment that would support Bellevue's existing practices and also give them valuable information about students' developing foundational skills.
