Addressing the Ultra-Linear Requirements of WiMAX Radio Systems

Overview Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) is starting to become a reality, with WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) systems being widely developed and early deployment beginning to take place. Networks based on this new standard promise the potent combination of high speeds and long range, up to several miles. However, there are significant technical challenges that must still be overcome in the development of these radio systems, as exceptionally high linearity amplifiers are required for the transmitter. This paper will present an introduction to the fixed WiMAX standard in the context of more established wireless standards, along with an overview of how the design of WiMAX amplifiers can be approached.
