TCP - IP White Papers

TCP Over WiMAX Networks

Overview The IEEE standard 802.16, also known as Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), is viewed as a powerful enabler for the massive deployment of high performance metropolitan area networks. It can also be viewed as one alternative to provide last mile access to Internet users, and therefore it is expected that most of its traffic will be TCP/IP. This paper intends to overview what are the features of the MAC layer of WiMAX that can affect the performance of TCP traffic, especially with PMP architecture. Mapping of TCP data over WiMAX and a discussion on the impact of different scheduling mechanisms is provided.
