Transmission of IEEE802.16d WiMAX Signals Over Radio-Over-Fibre IMDD Links

Overview In this paper, an overview of RoF technology is provided, followed by the description of suitable architectures for the deployment of WIMAX networks employing RoF systems. Finally, experiments demonstrating the feasibility of RoF technology to deliver WIMAX signals based in the IEEE 802.16d-2004 specification in the 3.5 GHz band are reported. Measured spectra and EVM for several single mode fibre spans (up to 5 km) have shown compliance with the spectral masks and EVM limits defined in the corresponding standards, demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed approach.
