The Alcatel WiMAX Solution: An End-to-End IP Architecture
Overview WiMAX IEEE 802.16e-2005 has become recognized as one of the key standards for broadband wireless access in wide-area networks (WANs). With the acceptance of this standard, Alcatel and other infrastructure suppliers are today engaged in a vigorous competition that will make this new technology more robust, as well as more adapted to today's service-provider and end-user needs. Thus far, the bulk of published analysis surrounding WiMAX has naturally focused on assessing the strengths and weaknesses of WiMAX radio access networks in isolation (either the standard generically, or supplier-specific offers). By contrast, this paper will focus on the Alcatel WiMAX End-to-End Reference Architecture, demonstrating how Alcatel's broad technology portfolio can complement and enhance its Evolium WiMAX Solution, thus optimizing both economic and performance benefits.
