Using XSIC Technology in Fixed WiMAX Networks for Improved Network Economics and User Experience
Overview Many WiMAX networks are deployed to serve mainly fixed subscribers, such as small and medium size enterprise buildings as well as residential CPE's. Fixed WiMAX networks are usually deployed as an alternative to ADSL, fiber or high speed cellular technologies. Therefore, in order to justify the initial deployment cost, and the operation cost and successfully compete over time in a reality of ARPU erosion, they need to have a significant advantage over the incumbent technologies, in terms of QoS and cost. Substantiating the WiMAX business case requires efficient ways of maximizing spectral efficiency. The WiMAX forum proposes two main techniques for enhancing spectral efficiency: using aggressive reuse schemes and using smart antenna techniques such as AAS (Adaptive Antenna Systems) and MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output).
