Strategic Directions for Thailand's Research and Industrial Development in Telecommunications

Overview Thailand might be a late comer to pursuit the goal of developing R&D capability and promoting manufacturing industry in telecommunications. With limited resources, both financial support and human capitals must be put to address key issues in national ICT development. Four strategic directions have been set by NTC/TRIDI as the focused technology areas for research and industry promotion; namely, broadband access, optical communications, short-range communications and NGN (Next Generation Network). This paper outlines these focus areas, and shows its importance to the future development of Thai telecom industry.
