WiMAX (802.16) White Papers

WiMAX and IMT-2000

Overview The inclusion of mobile WiMAX under the IMT-2000 umbrella will offer significant benefits to the mobile community by assuring the global delivery of Wireless Broadband Internet services at the lowest cost. Mobile WiMAX is based upon Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA), an access technology standardized in the IEEE 802.16e-2005 amendment to IEEE STD 802.16. The OFDMA technology has become commonly accepted as the basis for the evolution of mobile technology towards 4G, as it can provide high data rate capability and excellent support for new features such as advanced antenna technologies to maximize coverage and the number of users supported by the network.

Designing Multihop Wireless Backhaul Networks With Delay Guarantees

As wireless access technologies improve in data rates, the problem focus is shifting towards providing adequate backhaul from the wireless access points to the Internet. Existing wired backhaul technologies such...

Throughput and Capacity of MIMO WiMAX

The work in this paper presents physical layer throughput measurement results of a WiMAX link implemented according to IEEE 802.16-2004. The measurements were carried out in an alpine and an...

Measurement Based Throughput Evaluation of Residual Frequency Offset Compensation in WiMAX

WiMAX utilizes a physical-layer based on OFDM that is very sensitive to carrier frequency offset. Even though most of this offset can be compensated using the initial training sequence, there...

A Pegasus Over WiFi and WiMax Demo: Connectivity at High Speeds

This paper presents Pegasus, a system providing wireless connection roaming at high velocities over multiple interfaces. The system operates over WiMax, as well as over "In situ" WiFi networks, while...

Available Measurements in Current WiMAX Networks and Positioning Opportunities

This paper considers the practical issues related to positioning in WiMAX networks depending on the available measurements. The network under study is the Clearwire network deployed in Brussels capitol city....
