MedCentral Health System Deploys Proofpoint to Stop Spam and Comply With HIPAA Regulations

Overview MedCentral Health System was faced with two critical messaging security issues. First, the hospital needed to prevent sensitive information from leaving the network via outbound email in order to comply with HIPAA regulations. Second, employees were receiving an unacceptable amount of spam in their email inboxes, despite the fact that MedCentral had an anti-spam appliance installed in its network. MedCentral deployed the Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway to secure its inbound and outbound email streams. The Proofpoint Regulatory Compliance module allows MedCentral to scan its outbound email for any HIPAA infractions and educate its staff on proper email use, while the Proofpoint Spam Detection module blocks unsolicited email from entering the hospital's network at the gateway before it ever reaches users.
