Web-Enabled Middleware for Mobile Devices
Overview HTTP is a popular protocol for information transfer in IP networks, especially in human to computer interaction but also, as Web Services and even Grid Services are becoming more and more widely used, for computer to computer interaction. The HTTP protocol is implemented in nearly any programmable device, even in pervasive environments where limited devices are present. However, the HTTP implementation in limited devices tends to be confined to the client side of the protocol making it more difficult to have HTTP client-server interaction in pervasive environments. This paper presents how pervasive limited devices can become HTTP servers by defining and implementing a simplified Servlet API for MIDP2.0, concentrating on how to solve the restrictions imposed by J2ME.
