Dell Replaces a Proprietary, Tape-Based Backup Environment With a More Cost-Effective and Better Performing Shared Pool of Disk-Based Storage
Overview At Dell, the ever-growing volume of data created capacity issues for the end-of-life tape-based storage infrastructure; a reliance on proprietary tape-based archiving led to administrative burdens, unnecessarily high costs, and a slow time to recovery. Dell Global Technology Engineering Services and Dell Storage and Recovery Engineering teamed to upgrade the storage environment to a shared pool of disk-based storage; Dell implemented an EMC Celerra network-attached storage gateway with Multi-Path File System software to create a shared pool of storage; Dell/EMC CX700 storage area network to offer fast data retrieval; CLARiiON Disk Library for disk-based archiving; and a ADIC Scalar i2000 tape library for backup.
