DOHMH Centralizes Emergency Alerting and Collaboration on New Extranet Portal
Overview The City of New York's "Health Alert Network" (HAN) is designed to be a central communication portal to mobilize physicians, hospitals, healthcare providers and other emergency personnel in the event of a communicable disease outbreak or a bio-terrorism event. In the event of such a crisis, HAN allows DOHMH staff and other key participants to access the most up-to-date information from a secure and highly available resource. While HAN's primary purpose is to automate the process of notifying key healthcare and response personnel during emergencies, the portal also provides collaboration and community-building tools for members to use through the course of their day-to-day work.
