Global Retailer Improves Service and Brings Store Managers Closer to Customers
Overview Aware that waiting in long checkout lines is a source of frustration for shoppers, the METRO Group, a large retail corporation, wanted to monitor customer wait times and give store managers advance warning of problems. Microsoft referred the METRO Group to Wipro Technologies because of Wipro's extensive experience with the retail industry. Wipro built the Store Manager Workbench, which uses Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 to gather customer data from in-store systems, ASP.NET applications and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 to predict wait times, Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to present the information in real time, and Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003 to alert store managers if the wait times exceed a preset limit.
