Flyingware: An Email-Based Mobile Agent System

Overview This paper describes the efforts for further enhancement of the email. They use a mobile-agent technology and give context-dependency and autonomy to the email. The Flyingware system is a prototype that they are currently developing for this goal. A flyingware is a stand-alone application written in Java but it can autonomously move to another host computer with SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol), which is the standard protocol for exchanging emails. Since the flyingware moves with its execution context, it can act in a context-dependent way at the destination.
