PyTrilinos: High-Performance Distributed-Memory Solvers for Python

Overview The choice of programming language for the development of large-scale, high-performance numerical algorithms is often a thorny issue. Ideally, the programming language is only a tool used to produce a working library or application. In practice, there are important differences between the several programming languages made available to developers - from FORTRAN77 or FORTRAN90, to C and C++, Java, Python, MATLAB, and several others. One important distinction can be made between interpreted languages and compiled languages. For the former, the list of instructions (called a script) is translated at run-time by an interpreter, then executed; for the latter, the code is compiled and an executable file is created.
