Astrium Limited: Avoid Network Upgrade and Save 63 Percent on Bandwidth Costs
Overview Subsidiary of EADS, Astrium has outsourced their WAN. In the UK, they have 34 Mbps ATM links to Portsmouth and Stevenage and a 2 Mbps link to Poynton. Users were complaining about slow application response times - especially during the morning when users would login to the network. Upgrading the Poynton circuit would be expensive and create an ongoing, monthly expense. Astrium UK deployed two Juniper Networks WX 50 application acceleration platforms at each location - one as primary and one as backup. They immediately saw average reductions of 65 percent corresponding to a capacity increase of 2.8 times and peak reductions of 82 percent corresponding to a capacity increase of more than five times.
