Overview Growing of users demanding secure dynamic web applications on current sites encourages the use of scalable application servers to host these sites in order to maintain their availability and their performance. To obtain scalable application servers, a complete analysis to determine the causes of performance degradation under high load and to evaluate the convenience of upgrading the system adding new resources is required. This paper presents a characterization of secure dynamic web applications scalability divided in two parts. The vertical scalability of the server is measured if running with different number of processors, determining the impact of adding more processors on server saturation.
