Extreme Networks Provides Gigabit Ethernet Infrastructure for Innovative Brazilian Giga Project
Overview CPqD is among the most acknowledged technology centers in the world of telecommunications and information technology. Of late, CPqD and RNP began work on the government-sponsored Giga project in Brazil. The Giga project was an experimental optical network over which data flows via Gigabit Ethernet over DWDM. The network supports many different research projects for organizations such as universities and research centers, including the development of optical network prototypes and new applications, and advanced applications such as telemedicine and the distribution of real-time multimedia. Extreme Networks, through integration partner Ericsson, provided the Giga project with two BlackDiamond 10808 switches, 18 BlackDiamond 6808 switches, and 30 Summit 200-24 switches, deployed across seven cities spanning 700 Kilometers.
