Overview Operating in a highly competitive environment, the global IT and services company is regularly challenged to deliver innovative, fully integrated IT solutions to its clients as efficiently as possible. Recognizing an opportunity in 2001 to provide additional value to customers by adding telecommunications services to its arsenal of IT managed services, management also wanted to upgrade the company's internal wide area network to improve efficiencies. Anticipating a shift to an IP Virtual Private Network (IP VPN), Global Crossing began by connecting the company's 20 data centers in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Australia over its secure, private Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based backbone coupled with dedicated Internet access service providing secure connectivity to the S.I.'s clients.
