Securing a Virtual Private Network With Smart Card Technology

Overview As more and more enterprises open their online doors for e-business, the Virtual Private Network (VPN) has established itself as the preferred method for connecting an organization and its remote users. Traveling employees, business partners, contractors and offsite sales offices all require a way to remotely and securely access enterprise applications and sensitive or confidential data that resides on the corporate network, and organizations are finding that giving these remote users "anytime, anyplace" access to critical applications and information via VPN technology increases productivity, improves service, cuts costs and positively impacts revenues and the bottom line. Opening the doors for e-business, however, requires more than just the private and encrypted tunnel enabled by a VPN.
