Delivering Ethernet Services in the MAN Using Corrigent's Distributed Architecture
Overview The volume of data traffic carried over the public network has dramatically surpassed voice traffic. Web applications, e-commerce, Internet-based businesses as well as multimedia streaming applications are all driving this tremendous growth. Over the past 20 years, Ethernet has become the de facto standard for data networking within the Local Area Network (LAN). The vast deployments of Ethernet equipment in the LAN have made it the cheapest technology, on a dollar-per-megabit basis, for the end-user. This, in turn, has created a constantly increasing demand for Ethernet services. Ethernet traffic, as well as other forms of data traffic, are carried today over traditional SONET-based networks.
