Introduction to Point-to-Point Protocol Over Ethernet (PPPoE)

Overview In the last few years, there is an increasing demand for broadband access to residential and SOHO users. This increase in demand has led to the development of new protocols, allowing such users a secure and easy-to-manage connection to the ISP of their choice. The recent change in the market, where a clear separation between the carriers (who supply the access) and the service providers (who supply the Internet connectivity) is becoming increasingly obvious, leads to a greater need for such a technology. Allowing the carrier a simple way to provide access to different service providers is a big advantage to the carrier.
