Implementing Ethernet I/O in the Pulp Mill
Overview The majority of process variables that are displayed to operators, archived in historians, sliced, diced and analyzed by engineers are simple analog and discrete inputs. Large numbers of control outputs in process industries are simple outputs. Add these to the increasing use of Ethernet on the plant floor and there is a very significant reason that process industries should begin seriously looking at Ethernet I/O systems as an alternative to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for a large portion of the I/O that is needed by operators and information systems.
