Shipbuilder Introduces HPC on Microsoft to Develop High Value-Added Ship Types
Overview Like many companies, shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (DSME) has put more importance on computing power than ever before in order to enhance product quality and minimize design cost and time. DSME was using a large-scale UNIX-based system for its simulation software and it had to add server computers to keep up with growing workloads. To achieve more productive operations, the company decided to deploy a new high-performance computing solution based on Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003. It chose the solution over UNIX and Linux after a thorough evaluation. As a result, DSME has maximized resource utilization, lowered maintenance costs, and increased server performance. The new solution has also improved developer productivity and IT management.
