Congestion Control Mechanism Within MPLS Networks

Overview In operational IP networks, it has been difficult to incorporate effective traffic engineering due to the limited capabilities of the IP technology. Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) offers new possibilities for traffic control mechanisms. This paper presents congestion control model, which allows to evaluate QoS characteristics using MPLS features. FATE (Fast Acting Traffic Engineering) method is realized in this model, which solves the problem of dynamically managing traffic flows through the network by re-balancing streams during periods of congestion. The analytical model of LSR, which estimates QOS parameters: delay and loss probability, is given in the paper. Using those analytical formulas it was made on imitation network model and simulation results are presented.
