Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)
Overview Currently all communication services are migrating to IP based networks, which generates new requirements for the technology. As mission-critical data is carried over multipurpose networks, the performance and availability of the communication services become pivotal. Simultaneously, the IP network architectures become more complex and demanding to manage. The Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology have emerged as the answer to the management challenges of the carrier class IP networks. In MPLS networks, the packets are labeled on the edge of the network and they are routed through the network based on simple labels. This enables explicit routing and differentiated treatment of the packets while keeping the core routers simple.
