Preserving End-to-End Quality of Service for IP VPNs Over MPLS Satellite Networks

Overview The entire telecommunications industry has expressed huge interest in MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology. Carriers advertise their experience with deployed MPLS networks as a badge of honor. Most carriers are expanding MPLS offerings: in geographic coverage (by adding Points of Presence) and in features (based on both performance and management functions). Enterprise users increasingly look to MPLS providers for services to replace traditional leased lines and as less ex-pensive alternatives to virtual circuit services, mostly Frame Relay and ATM. Federal Agencies in particular look to outsourced MPLS as a way to respond to requirements that government operations, including private networks, be opened to competition from private firms.
