Virtualization Helped the City of New Orleans Begin Recovery After Katrina

Overview After the storm, the city of New Orleans recognized an opportunity to expand its original IT upgrade plans. Because the majority of city agencies lost all computing capabilities, it was a chance for the IT department to create an innovative centralized infrastructure that could support the city and remain cost-effective. The team wanted to establish an easily managed environment that would deliver faster, more reliable functionality and include a solid disaster-recovery component. The city of New Orleans deployed Dell for its solution and implemented Dell EMC CX700 Storage Area Network with 10 to 15 terabytes of storage and a Dell PowerVault tape backup unit.
