Studying Appropriation in Activity-Centric Collaboration

Overview This paper describes a case study of appropriation of a research prototype by a 33- member research community, leading to reinvention of the prototype and a successful transfer to product. Based on those experiences, the paper proposes some lessons learned about designing for appropriation. This paper contains two sections. The major section describes a case study of appropriation in an activity-centric collaboration environment. The second section proposes lessons learned about designing for appropriation in collaborative computing environments.
