Migrating Simple Data Over Cable Services to DOCSIS 1.1

Overview The Data-Over-Cable Service Interface Specifications (DOCSIS) 1.1 standard gives cable service providers the opportunity to deploy a whole new suite of sophisticated multimedia and real-time services. Before these services can be deployed, it is important that current data services are able to be migrated from a DOCSIS 1.0 operating environment to a DOCSIS 1.1 operating environment. This paper describes how to convert a functional DOCSIS 1.0 system to a DOCSIS 1.1 and DOCSIS 1.0 hybrid system, and finally, to a totally DOCSIS 1.1?based system. It also discusses commonly used Cisco IOS software commands that have been modified, enhanced, or replaced in DOCSIS 1.1?enabled Cisco IOS software.
