The methodology one chooses helps one to analyze the requirements and to develop and deliver the final product. A principal piece of one's methodology will be designing or modeling the database, based upon one's business requirements. This paper talks about designing and modeling specifically for DB2 Universal Database using Rational XDE Developer for Java. The Unified Modeling Language (UML) is the standard graphical notation for modeling business and software application needs. The use of the UML for object-oriented software development has become widespread in the past few years.
