Systems Integration White Papers

Wireless Integration - Integrating Wireless Applications With Existing Systems

Overview Many businesses use wireless applications as mobile interfaces to existing corporate systems. This can present challenges to software designers who must work with complex legacy systems in the constrained environment of a mobile device. The two most important problems they face are extracting data from the existing system and representing it on a mobile device. A well-conceived software architecture can help to produce effective mobile interfaces while avoiding some common problems. A typical corporate use for mobile applications is as mobile interfaces to existing (or "Legacy") systems. These systems are often 10 to 20 years old and can be genuinely massive. They might contain, for example, information on financing, billing, payrolls, and products (manuals, specifications, drawings, and the like).
