Overview NYK wanted a robust system that would give the customers an instant and electronic view of their shipment. The company wanted the system to electronically upload Advanced Shipment Notice (ASN) to track shipment status. At the same time, the system should be able to perform validations to avoid inaccurate dispatching of automobiles onto the wrong vessel. NYK chose the Motorola PPT8800 mobile computers to provide complete, end-to-end shipment visibility, thus enabling more accurate and real-time sharing of information across the entire NYK network. This ASN-enabled system helps plan resources more efficiently and provides reliable data to all parties responsible for the movement of freight from origin to destination.
