Extracting Data: Gas Company Connects Employees With Critical Information by Integrating Microsoft Office With Enterprise System
Overview The working conditions for VostokGazprom employees in the field are extraordinarily challenging. In moderate weather, getting to and from the fields requires workers to travel by boat or helicopter. In winter, trucks or cars can be used to drive over ice created by bitterly cold temperatures. The company needs to hire people who not only are willing to work in these conditions, but also have the highly specialized skills in geology, engineering, and other disciplines required by the industry. The company also uses a manufacturing execution system, or MES, to pull together data from the various SCADA systems into one central location in Tomsk. VostokGazprom deployed an MES in 2005 that used Microsoft technologies and a number of custom applications used for specific engineering tasks.
