Managing Encryption Keys: Best Practices for Ensuring Data Recoverability

Overview A heightened of vulnerabilities to sensitive stored data has resulted in increase application of encryption technology to prevent unauthorized viewing. Providing a reliable, safe and effective mechanism for securing data at rest, however, requires the adoption and rigorous execution of well-defined process for handling both the keys used to encrypt data and the keys used to safeguard the data encryption keys. Key management is a comprehensive term that covers such controls, including the creation, distribution, deployment storage, transmission and eventually destruction of keys used to encipher data.
