SAN Security: A Best Practices Guide

Overview Security is an important component of today's enterprise computing infrastructures. The process of defining, implementing, and managing security policies is pervasive and often an essential business requirement. Numerous management, operational, and technical controls are available to provide layers of protection for the enterprise computing infrastructure. While these measures can be quite effective when correctly implemented and maintained, they do require understanding of some basic security concepts and an awareness of some common tools that protect against various types of accidents and attacks. The topics in this paper provide an introduction to some fundamental security concepts; additional details appear in the ensuing chapters. The paper addresses design considerations, security threats, controls, and general SAN security topics.
