Overview The goal of this paper is to provide a detailed security analysis of mobile two-way messaging systems that are used for the authentication of users during a financial transaction, and to derive security requirements and/or recommendations. A background on the payment model and on the underlying carrier network considered in this paper is also provided. The security within any system is a balance between the likelihood and impact of threats, and the cost and complexity of security measures. The security analysis conducted in this paper starts with the identification of security threats, then identifies and analyses vulnerabilities that may enable the threats to be realized.
