MSDN Webcast: Windows Server Core in the Embedded Space (Level 100)
Overview Windows Server 2008 for Embedded Systems enables building small-footprint, dedicated server appliances by allowing installing only the roles and features that are needed. The Server Core installation option provides a minimal footprint, as small as one gigabyte in some scenarios, by eliminating the local Graphical User Interface (GUI). This change simplifies ongoing maintenance by reducing the need for software updates and by minimizing the attack surface area. Server Core supports common server roles including virtualization, Read-Only Domain Controller (RODC), Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM), Domain Name Services (DNS), WINS, DHCP, Internet Information Services (IIS), and File and Print Server.
