Estimating Data Transmission Overhead for Networked J2ME Applications

Overview One of the key advantages of building applications for Nextel's phones is the possibility of using Nextel's iDEN network to transmit data over the air. Nextel's handsets offer a wide array of networking protocols that can be used to transmit and receive information; each of these provides a range of options and tradeoffs between ease of implementation and end cost of data transmission during the lifetime of the application. This paper explains how Nextel bills for packet data originating from J2ME applications on the phones and provides guidelines for calculating how much data can applications actually transmit.
